Why Gotham Home Services
An air conditioner that runs but does not cool is usually caused by a dirty filter or coil, restricted airflow, a failed capacitor or fan motor, a refrigerant leak or a frozen evaporator coil. Gotham Home Services diagnoses and repairs the cause in New York City and Long Island, with dispatch at (516) 348-5145. We give a written quote before approved work begins.

What we handle
Start with airflow. A clogged filter, closed vents or a blocked return can starve the coil, and a starved coil can freeze. Turn cooling off, run the fan to melt any ice and check the filter. If it freezes again, the cause is inside the system.
Electrical parts fail often in heat waves. A weak capacitor can leave the outdoor fan or compressor not running while the indoor blower still moves warm air. Refrigerant is not consumed, so low refrigerant means a leak that needs to be found and repaired, not just topped off.
Window, through-wall and PTAC units in apartments have their own failure points: dirty coils, blocked drains, failed sleeves and control faults. We repair the equipment we diagnose and tell you plainly when replacement is the better option.

No. Refrigerant handling requires certification, and low refrigerant means there is a leak that must be repaired.
It depends on the failed part, the age of the system and the refrigerant type. We can price repair and replacement side by side.
Yes. We repair PTAC, through-wall and mini-split units, subject to building access rules.
